Liquid Lipsticks

Updated: May 23, 2020

Next up in my lippie series are the ever-so-trendy liquid lipsticks!

Matte lipsticks have been very popular for the past couple years, particularly in the liquid lipstick form. These lippies often come in lipgloss-esque tubes so they are applied like a gloss, with some sort of wand. Others are in squeeze tubes (which is also typically lip gloss packaging). Instead of staying wet and shiny, they dry down to a matte finish. This typically helps them last long on the lips as well. I know I have several liquid lipsticks that stay put even through eating so if you're looking for a long-wearing lippie, you've come to the right post.

It is important to note that some liquid lipsticks do not have a matte finish. I will include those in this post as well and mention it in their review. Otherwise, you can assume it's a matte finish.

Here are some formulas and colors I've tried:

Anastasia Beverly Hills, Vamp ($20): I don’t think these are worth the money. The formula isn’t too drying on the lips and looks pretty good but when I ate the middle was entirely gone whereas cheaper formulas I’ve tried have lasted longer and better. I guess I’m judging it more on the price, so if you don’t mind the price and really want some of the colors, you might want to try these.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip ($6.50): These can feel a little drying on the lips, but I still like them a lot and wear them a lot when I go out because I know I won’t have to touch it up. If I eat, a little wears off in the middle but it’s easy to add some more. Beeper is probably my most used. (See Ultra Satin Lip pic for swatch of Beeper).

Bound & Lumiere are Lippie Stix. Clueless & Trap are Ultra Matte Lips

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip ($6.50): I loveee this formula! Matte formulas are not always my favorite so this feels less dry on the lips but still lasts long. And this color is pretty too!

Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipstick, Truffle and Lazy Daisy ($18): This is a really nice, comfortable formula that stays well and the packaging is cute so it gets some bonus points for that.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, Bow n Arrow ($20 for full size): I never like spending a lot on lipsticks, but this is a good formula. Not too drying on the lips but lasts long and I really like this color.

Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint, Stripped Down ($9.99): This has a creamy finish but not glossy and it wears really well on the lips. I really like this formula and this color!

Milani Amore Matte Lip Crème ($8.99): A pretty good, long-wearing liquid lipstick for an affordable price but I find them to feel dry on the lips and some of them can get a little crumbly looking. Not my favorite.

NYX Candy Slick Glowy Lip Color ($6.50): These are so interesting because they're like a mix between a lipstick and a lip gloss. I feel that a lip liner is absolutely necessary in order to make these last all day. They start pretty glossy but dry down to this more satin "glowy" lip color. They're not sticky at all and feel so comfortable and hydrating on the lips all day.

NYX Glitter Goals Liquid Lipstick ($9): I don't wear this type of lipstick a lot but it was very pigmented and opaque with a lot of beautiful glitter. The more you press your lips together, the more the glitter sparkles. They are very long-wearing and pretty comfortable.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks ($7): One of my favorite liquid lipstick formulas! I bought the holiday vault so I have a mini version of all the colors. It is super comfortable on the lips and never feels dry. It keeps a sort of plushness to it so that it never looks too dry or accentuates the lines in my lips. It’s also very long-wearing. If I eat, I can quickly touch up any fading in the middle. I feel like the biggest mistake people make with this is using too much and/or not letting it dry because it is a cream lipstick so it can be too creamy if you add too much. I’ve personally never had that problem, but that’s usually the main reason people say they don’t like it.

NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Cream Lipsticks ($7.50): These aren’t super metallic but I prefer my metallics glossy anyway. Biker Babe is a really nice shade!

NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick ($7): The colors in this line are beautiful but the formula is very dry on the lips. I have to wear a lip balm underneath these for sure. They do last really long on the lips though.

NYX Powder Puff Lippie, Puppy Love ($8.50): These are really interesting lippies, but overall I like them! You squeeze the product out of a cushion applicator and it comes out as a cream. When you apply it, it feels creamy and then it sets down to a powder finish. It is not transfer-proof, as I noticed it on my water bottle, but it stays well on the lips. It feels like powder on your lips but somehow doesn't feel dry or uncomfortable. I find that it gives you somewhere between a wash of color and full coverage on your lips. Kind of reminds me of their Soft Matte Lip Cream formula in terms of coverage.

NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil ($7): This is called a lip oil but it dries down matte on the lips. It feels like you’re wearing nothing but it lasts pretty well (unless you eat, then it wears off almost entirely). They can be a bit patchy going on depending on the color though.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6.50): This has a whipped, creamy formula in a liquid lipstick tube, so it’s not technically a liquid. They go on smoothly and last pretty long. It is a little drying on the lips, but most of them have good pigmentation. There are a lot of pastel shades which usually look good but the darker ones can get a little patchy so try not to swipe back and forth too much.

NYX Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream, Rome ($7): I like the formula of these even better than the regular SMLCs. They’re not overly metallic which I actually like about them.

Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick, Pasadena ($20): I thought this color was going to be a lot more nude pink so I have only worn this once. The formula was okay but I remember being a little underwhelmed by how long it lasted and the way it wore on my lips throughout the day. It was very comfortable on the lips, though.

Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick, Stepping Out ($24): A really beautiful formula that is opaque, comfortable, and long-wearing until you eat. This is one of my all-time favorite lipsticks because of the formula and this color in particular.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, ($22 for full size): A great, super comfortable and long-wearing formula!

Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint, Birthday Suit ($20 for full size): I've only used this a couple times but it wears well on the lips, feels nice and the color is super pretty.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick, Melted Fig ($21 for full size): A gorgeous shade and a nice formula. Matte, but comfortable.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid, Backtalk ($18): These aren't bad but just not what I was expecting. It kind of reminds me of an actual bullet lipstick in a liquid form. It wasn't bulletproof, it didn't dry down to a super matte, so it just kind of felt like...a lipstick. Nothing wrong with that, just nothing extraordinary either.
